More than 26,000 bicycles were reported stolen to the Metropolitan police last year and cycle campaign groups believe the figures only tell part of the story as only one-in-four people report stolen bicycles. Cycle storage systems that offer a high level of security are therefore in high demand.
The ‘Streetpod’ by Cyclepods is the first cycle racking system to be approved to LPS 1175: Issue 7 (Requirements and testing procedures for the LPCB approval and listing of intruder resistant building components, strongpoints, security enclosures and free-standing barriers).
James Stewart, Cyclepods’ Technical Director said: “With the Streetpod, we felt confident that we had designed the ultimate secure cycle parking solution which would suit a wide range of clients. To ensure we had achieved this, we decided to have the Streetpod independently approved to LPS 1175, a standard recognised by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), “Secured by Design”. We are pleased to announce the Streetpod stood up to this rigorous test.”
He added: “We feel this is a positive step in the right direction for secure cycle parking and are seeing the benefits of achieving this standard as more and more Streetpods are being purchased and specified for new projects every day.”
LPS 1175 covers the broadest scope of products and services of any publicly available physical security standard in the world and the rigorous approval programme is designed to address risks that may not be adequately covered by or may require higher standards than other national or international standards.
