Sprue Safety Products first to achieve LPCB approval for combined detectors

Sprue Safety Products ‘First Alert’ range of battery powered combination carbon monoxide and photoelectric smoke alarm (SCO5) has become the first to pass the rigorous approval requirements of LPS 1282 (Requirements and Testing Procedures for Combined Domestic Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors).

This standard addresses a gap in the market place for combined domestic smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Figures reveal that in 2010-11 there were a total of 262 deaths (212 from dwelling fires[1] and 50 CO-related) [2].

Nick Rutter, Managing Director of Sprue Safety Products said: “We are committed to keeping the maximum number of people safe from the dangers of both fire and carbon monoxide (CO) whilst in their homes. Being the first to achieve the LPS 1282 is a tremendous achievement for us and demonstrates our commitment to constantly reviewing and developing our product range to offer the public the best technology to keep them safe.”

He added: “Previously the absence of any uniform standard across Europe for combined smoke and CO alarms made it more difficult for people to understand the significant benefits that these products offer. This new standard makes it easier for consumers to choose a dual function product that provides peace of mind that they can be protected from both CO and fire dangers at the same time.”

Raman Chagger, Senior Consultant at BRE Global said: “It is an excellent achievement that the SC05 battery operated detector is the first to meet the requirements of LPS 1282. Sprue Safety Products has demonstrated their commitment and diligence to life-safety by obtaining LPCB approval for this device.”
