Countdown is on to UK Passivhaus Conference 2012

Open days running in conjunction with event offer opportunity to experience a range of UK Passivhaus projects.

BRE in partnership with the Passivhaus Trust is organising the UK Passivhaus Conference 2012 on 7-8 November at the East Midlands Conference Centre (EMCC) in Nottingham. Focussing on key themes such as retrofit, policy, design and procurement, the two-day event offers a comprehensive review of the standard to date, from its uptake in the UK to the practical delivery of the first UK Passivhaus projects.

The International Passive House Association is also running a series of open days from 9-11 November where a wide range of exemplary buildings constructed to the Passivhaus standard are open to the general public. Visitors can gain first-hand insight and experience of sustainable buildings including schools, offices, social housing and private homes, all designed by different architects and built using various construction methods.

Notes for editors

Passivhaus buildings provide a high level of occupant comfort while using very little energy for heating and cooling. They are built according to rigorous design and construction principles developed by the Passivhaus Institute in Germany and are certified via a stringent quality assurance process.

Over 30,000 Passivhaus buildings have been built in Europe and interest in the UK is growing with at least 70 projects either certified or in progress.

The Passive House Days, supported by the EU Commission’s Intelligent Energy Programme through the PassREg project, are an initiative of the International Passive House Association (iPHA) and its worldwide affiliates.
