ABOUT THE BUILDING
HMP Thameside’s new Kitchen and Vocational Training Workshop building is part of a completely new prison facility procured by the Ministry of Justice. The whole development comprises 10 new prison buildings, including a sports hall, reception, kitchen and vocational training workshop, and health and education unit, amongst other facilities.
The building in Thamesmead, east London, is owned by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and managed and operated by Serco. All buildings at the new facility were required to achieve a minimum BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ as a contract requirement, and a demonstration of the commitment to sustainability by the MoJ.
