NAVE DE VERO, A NEW RETAIL DEVELOPMENT NEAR VENICE, IS THE FIRST SHOPPING CENTRE IN ITALY TO BE AWARDED A BREEAM SUSTAINABILITY RATING OF VERY GOOD.
The name Nave de Vero – or ‘glass ship’ in English – is a homage to the Venice’s maritime past and reflects the striking glass structure around the main entrance, which looks like the prow of a ship. The Centre has been developed by Dutch-based international retail developer, Corio.
“We have worked hard throughout the centre to use sustainable materials and have asked our retailers to follow suit,” says Gino Antonacci, COO of Corio Italia. “Since the beginning of the project, the team has been fully involved and focused on the BREEAM assessment method according to the CSR policy of Corio Group. The design, choice of materials, use of LED lighting to drastically cut energy use, solar panels and use of alternative modes of transport are just a few of the positive features of the project. We have also installed the latest building management systems to ensure the indoor climate is optimal and energy bills are kept as low as possible. After all, in the end this benefits everyone.”
“This is a terrific achievement by the Corio team and a tribute to their commitment to sustainable retail space. Corio have worked hard to create a positive shopping experience, good for tenants and visitors and one which minimises the impact on the environment” says Gavin Dunn, Director of BREEAM.
Corio paid tribute to the enthusiastic co-operation of all of the tenants occupying the shopping centre, throughout the entire process of the final fit-out. This was a key element in Nave de Vero’s BREEAM success. Corio also acknowledge the important work by the project’s architects, London-based Design International, in terms of developing a design and specifying materials to meet BREEAM’s demanding sustainability criteria, in co-operation with Manens-Tifs s.p.a. for the MEP design and BREEAM consultancy, with Tecnostudio s.r.l. for project management and detailed design and contractors Moretti Contract s.r.l.
Nave de Vero has been developed in line with Corio’s target of achieving a minimum BREEAM rating of Good for all of the company’s new build and redevelopment retail projects. This is a fundamental part of its policy to integrate sustainability fully into the concept and design of development projects, in order to create flexible and future-proof centres.
