ABOUT THE BUILDING

Greenstore Stamata is a supermarket in Athens owned by the ΑB Vassilopoulos-Delhaize Group. The building consists of the main sales floor and backup offices, with storage and M&E function areas in the basement. The external areas consist of a car park with electrical vehicle recharging stations, recycling points, attractive landscaping and planting to enhance biodiversity.

OVERVIEW OF ENVIRONMENTAL FEATURES

The key sustainability features of the building include:

  • Energy efficient and renewable energy systems, including: geothermal heat pump, photovoltaic panels on the roof and photovoltaic glazing to the main facade, a small-scale wind turbine, solar panels, heat recovery in cold storage systems, closed refrigeration display cabinets with COrefrigerant and LED lighting, a building management system (BMS) with real time metering and control, and electrical vehicle recharging stations with energy provided by the renewable energy systems.
  • Excellent internal environment conditions in retail and offices areas, including: natural day-lighting supported by sun-pipes, glare reduction with glare control systems, internal air quality and CO2 level control, natural ventilation option in offices, night-time purge with natural ventilation controlled by the BMS, improved thermal and acoustic comfort.
  • Low water consumption fittings in all WCs, on-line water metering and leak detection/prevention systems, rain water harvesting for use in WCs and external planting and landscaping irrigation system.
  • Waste management with recycling of nine waste streams for staff and customers, compactor for packaging waste and composting of organic waste.
  • Pollution minimisation, including: reduced night-time light pollution using LED technology for external lighting, sensors for detecting refrigerant leaks, and minimal noise pollution from building services (to sensitive neighbouring buildings) through effective noise attenuation.
  • Exemplar project management with controlled site impacts during construction, commissioning of building services and Life Cycle Costing analysis for managing long-term impact and effective building operation.

  • Water (77.78%)
  • Management (63.64%)

Additionally it achieved Innovation credits in the Energy and Health & Wellbeing categories.
